Welcome to Ink & Magick. I'm your friendly neighborhood witch. What kind of spell can I get for you (or your character) today?

Hi and it’s awesome to be here with you! A spell that can help Violet, who’s trapped in a deadly realm of gods and monsters, become more powerful against the angelic Emperor…or maybe one that makes you grow wings. Violet would love to be able to fly with her angel lovers!

Ummm. I think you have the wrong magick shoppe...Do I look all-powerful to you? But hey, that sounds interesting, tell me about your #paranormal #urbanfantasy Vampire God (Rebel Angels Book 5).

In the realm of the gods, the final game for the Crown has begun.

Violet is running out of time. In a court of godly angelic Seraphim, the only way to survive the trickery and secrets of The Burning Temple is to seduce the despotic Emperor’s sultry, shifter son. Yet is he as much a prisoner as her in his Gilded Cage?

Violet must undertake the Test by Monster to become a bodyguard to the Emperor: a Fae Knight of the Seraphim. If she fails, her vampire and angel lovers will be tossed into the Abyss. At last, Violet meets her creator, and the dangerous truth is revealed…

When the Emperor threatens to wipe out every world and start a new Eden, time is up. In the final battle, Violet could lose everything.

Excerpt:

The angel dragged me close, whispering into my ear, “Trust me, and I shall worship you.” I gasped, drawing back. Gabriel’s eyes lit with painful hope. “Take my Crown, body, soul—”

“I don’t want a slave.” I shoved him against the wall.

My godlike powers burnt bright at Gabriel’s temptation: to claim an Archduke and future Emperor, just as his rich amber scent begged me to stroke the distressed sparks on his feathers and cherish him, rather than force him to his knees, whilst he worshipped me.

Gabriel cocked his head. “Then rule with me.”

My eyes widened.

He wanted me to be the future Empress?

“Help me survive in this deadly realm and you’ll have my trust. I don’t need to take anything from you.”

“But what if I willingly give it?” Gabriel slipped his arm back around my waist, kissing my jaw.

His magic sizzled from his lips in a tingling line: I gasped, juddering into his hold.

Here was love, not slavish worship.

I desired more…to claim him: Crown, body and soul…

Wow, there seems to be a lot going on here. Tell me about what type of supernatural beings are in your world? How do you handle vampires? What makes your creatures unique?

I write the Rebel Verse, which is a world that includes the USA Today Bestselling Rebel Angels and award-winning Rebel Vampires series.

It includes vampires and angels who are locked in a deadly war, as well as witches like yourself and familiars…and many more supernaturals (but I don’t want to give spoilers!).

In the Rebel Verse there’s a distinct twist on both vampires and angels: neither is good or bad. One has rebelled against the other, and they’re fighting a civil war. Violet is half vampire and half angel and is caught in the middle.

That cover is beautiful. How about giving a shoutout to the cover artist? Tells us about where the design originated.

Thank you! The cover designer is Rebecca Frank.

I’m highly visual: I see scenes in my head in a sensory way. I knew how I wanted my covers with the colours and movement.

Each cover has Violet and the chief angel or vampire lover who’s central to the plot. In Vampire Huntress this is Rebel the punk angel who sparked the series. Like Anita Blake, Violet loves vampires, angels, and shifters and needs them in a crucial way to complete different sides of her nature.

Which one of your characters surprised you?

I think I surprised myself for how hard I fell in love with some of my characters (Mischief and Drake…Rebel I always knew!).

I plot A LOT and knew the ending of the series, which has some major shocks and twists, right from the start that cast some things in an entirely new light. Even within that though, the capacity for making me cry beneath the humour and snark caught me by surprise: Mischief, I think, more than any character!

Who is your favorite (or least favorite) character and why?

My favourite characters are Violet and Light: my two lead vampires in the Rebel Angels and Rebel Vampires series. The books are written in their voices, so I’ve been inside their heads for a couple of years now… I love my two snarky anti-heroes!

I don’t have a least favourite characters because I have so much fun with my antagonist ‘Big Bads’ – and they always have something that makes them sympathetic. No well-written villain believes they’re the villain but rather that they’re the hero if only everyone else saw it!

If you could time-travel, would you travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go, and why would you choose that time period?

I’d travel either to Victorian England or to Elizabethan times!

I studied Postgrad history at Oxford University, and I’d love to see it for real. Writing Rebel Vampires was awesome because I could write a vampire from Elizabethan times (Ruby), as well as set some of it in Victorian England.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?

My readers are an incredibly supportive tribe (my Rebel family!), and I’m so grateful for everything they do. Writing reviews, recommendations, and word of mouth all help my books reach new readers. I’m more grateful than readers know when they do these!

What can we expect from you next?

About

    D. Lieber has a wanderlust that would make a butterfly envious. When she isn’t planning her next physical adventure, she’s recklessly jumping from one fictional world to another. Her love of reading led her to earn a Bachelor’s in English from Wright State University.

Beyond her skeptic and slightly pessimistic mind, Lieber wants to believe. She has been many places—from Canada to England, France to Italy, Germany to Russia—believing that a better world comes from putting a face on “other.” She is a romantic idealist at heart, always fighting to keep her feet on the ground and her head in the clouds.

Lieber lives in Wisconsin with her husband (John) and cats (Yin and Nox).
